David wrote, co-produced and edited the feature film, YOUNG EINSTEIN (1988, Warner Bros). The film was nominated for Best Screenplay at the AFI Awards. He wrote, associate produced and edited the feature RECKLESS KELLY (1993, Warner Bros); wrote and co-produced the feature MR ACCIDENT (2000, MGM/UA); wrote and co-produced the documentary SINGER – A DANGEROUS MIND (2003) and wrote and directed the documentary WRITERS ON WRITING (2008, ABC/BBC). The film was nominated for Australian Teachers of Media Award.
David wrote and produced (with Bill Leimbach) the feature, BENEATH HILL 60 (2010) which screened at film festivals internationally; was nominated for 11 AFI Awards including Best Original Screenplay and Best Film; won the AFI Members’ Choice Award for Best Film and Best Original Screenplay; won Best Narrative Feature at the 2010 Savannah Film Festival; won the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the 2010 Hamptons International Film Festival and won Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2011 Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards. David co-wrote and co-directed (with Warwick Ross) the feature documentary RED OBSESSION (2014) which was narrated by Russell Crowe and screened at Berlin, Tribeca, Seattle and Sydney Film Festivals. Awards include AWGIE for Best Documentary in 2013, AACTA Award Best Feature Documentary Screenplay, AACTA Award Best Feature Documentary, Best Direction. In 2015 David wrote 3 of the 10 episodes for TV series AUSTRALIA – The Story of Us produced by Essential Media for Channel 7 (Australia) and in 2016 David wrote and directed THE SURGEON AND THE SOLDIER, a documentary for SBS TV produced by Margie Bryant.
Current projects include the feature film ESCAPE FROM HONG KONG, writer/co-producer with Lion Rock Films (Australia) and the feature film UNTITLED RANGERS PROJECT for Third Man Films (Australia).
Script editing includes feature films LAST CAB TO DARWIN (2015) , directed by Jeremy Sims and starring Michael Caton and Jacki Weaver and DRIFT (2013) starring Sam Worthington.
